This booklet is specifically tailored for those who write and/or edit for the Christian market. You can learn to analyze markets with the same tools used in big business. Chapter One introduces the marketing mix, a basic concept of marketing taught in business schools everywhere. In subsequent chapters, learn about product, promotion, place, and price, the components of the marketing mix. Chapter Six summarizes and adds the Christian's Fifth P, prayer. Read the chapters and do the exercises at the end of each chapter. You'll be well on your way to building your very own marketing plan. Special feature: after you've finished the book, you can request a critique of your written exercises from the author for an additional fee. Questions? E-mail me. This material was first offered as an online course through The Christian PEN, Proofreaders and Editors Network. Here's what one participant had to say:
Thanks,
Emily. I'm learning more than I'd expected from this class. In fact, I
originally thought this would be boring and useless for what I hope to
be doing with my writing/editing career. Nothing could be further from
the truth. Perhaps the reason I didn't like marketing in the past is
because I didn't understand it or the components. With each chapter, I
become more excited to get my freelance business going. God bless you
for taking the time to teach this class. I
liked that I actually learned something about marketing! Upon the release
of my first book, I bought books on marketing, and I think I learned more
from this concise class than from all those books put together. Very
comprehendible material! --Jeanne
Leach (Author,
Speaker, Freelance Fiction Editor, Writing Coach Finding Stories in Everyday Life Originally offered for sale as a paperback booklet, this e-book is a collection of reprints of articles that I wrote for Hometown Magazine over the past few years. It's designed for writers who want to get their work published but who also think they don't have anything to write about. Contents include: Foreword There Is Joy in the Journey: Myrtle Harton It's Yard Sale Time in Tennessee: Faye Scott Wally Latta: Betcha Didn't Know Popeye and Mr. Slim Horse Sense Easy Hot Weather Dinner St. Patrick's Day and Easter: Holidays or Holy Days? It Is Good to Give Thanks Mom's Extreme Cookie Project Home Biz: Santa Claus Is Coming to Town
From the Foreword: "Many aspiring writers either have a pet topic that they want to write about all the time, or they think they don't have anything interesting to write about. I've been writing for publication since 1999. In the beginning, I heard this from everyone: "Write what you know." At which point I would think: Uuuhhh, what do I know? Every person's life experience is unique. A story that seems ordinary to you might be fascinating to someone else. Writing for the Christian market, I have used my experience as a church musician to write articles and devotionals about people and events during my time as a church musician. My work experience in business provided a whole list of topics to write about. I've written a column for HOMETOWN magazine entitled Home Biz, a series of articles about buying, selling, financing, and maintaining your home." All of the stories were favorites of Hometown readers when first published. I included a short commentary with each story telling how I came to write about that subject and how I developed my approach.
